Commercials that suck

I am a TV whore.  There.  I admitted it.  But I have no intentions of seeking recovery.

The best thing that has ever happened to TV was the invention of the DVR.  Working late?  No problem!  Can't decide which show to watch first?  Record the other one!  Don't like commercials?  Use the fast forward button!

But I have been watching a lot of shows that have been on regular TV.  Eeeeek!  That means commercials. And I have been thoroughly disturbed with the recent commercials I have been seeing.

K-Mart's Joe Boxer "Show Your Joe"

Now I am all for seeing half-naked men on TV (ie: zesty guy Kraft dressing commercials), but men in their underwear jingling their balls bells?  Put some damn pants on.  You look ridiculous.

Farmer's Only Dating Site

I don't know who gets this gem on their TV's, but I literally cracked up when I first saw it. They literally have an online dating site for every single kind of person and demographic. But this commercial comes on all.the.time.  And the jingle is kinda catchy so I get it stuck in my head all.the.time.

ZiCam pre-cold monster

Since it's cold season I am seeing this commercial entirely too often and this pre-cold monster is freaking me the hell out.  He is ugly and gross and has a runny nose.  The runny nose is scary enough. Don't tell me I'm the only one that shudders when I'm next to a stranger that is coughing, sneezing, or sniffling.

Skittles "French the Rainbow"

Why they ever got the idea to make Skittles as teeth I have no idea.  They aren't shaped like teeth or white like teeth so I really have no clue.  But then to have this chick come and suck Skittles out of this guy's mouth just makes me want to vomit in mine.

ASPCA commercials

I won't even torture you by posting an actual ASPCA commercial.  I am a total dog person and volunteered with dog rescue for many years so I literally close my eyes or change the channel anytime one of these commercials come on.  I just can't stand watching images of the abused and neglected animals.  And that song on top of it!  Make.it.stop.

What commercials do you hate?

#sidebarlove {December}

Since yesterday was Christmas, I wanted to give you guys a belated Christmas gift and introduce you to a few of my lovely sponsors! For this month's #sidebarlove, I asked them a few questions about the holiday season.

1. What is one of your favorite holiday traditions?
2. What is an item at the top of your Christmas wish list? Will you be getting it?

BrookeLyn @ Babbling BrookeLyn
1. Favorite Holiday Tradition would have to be Christmas Pajamas on Christmas Eve that my mom picks out for my siblings and I every year. The one year she tried to say we were all too old for them, we copped a fit. Needless today, she has never missed a Christmas PJs on Christmas Eve since.
2. An item that was at the top of my wish list was Miss Dior perfume and since the BF and I had to celebrate early, because he left for Christmas with his family in Indiana, I am already getting to wear it :)

1. One of my favorite holiday traditions is Christmas Eve dinner!  We always have delicious food and desserts and exchange small gifts with family members that night!  We do it at different family members house each year.
2. I would really like a Tory Burch purse!  No idea if I'm getting it or not, I hope so!

1. I think the only tradition my family really has is where we "sit" on Christmas morning to open gifts! My brother still makes me sit on the floor next to the tree and pass out gifts to everyone. My parents are always on the couch. It's something we've done since we were little! This year will be interesting since C is joining us....I wonder where he will sit!
2. The item at the top of my list is a new laptop! I dropped my old one because it shocked me and I screwed it up. I'm pretty sure I am getting one from my parents...fingers crossed!

1. Christmas time is when I miss my Puerto Rico that much more. Even though it's been years since I last went to visit I can't deny that my soul still yearns to celebrate the holidays a la Boricua style. In case you aren't familiar with the term "Boricua" it means a person who is Puerto Rican. Back in the day the natives used to call Puerto Rico the island of Boriquen. So if you're an inhabitant from Boriquen, then you're a Boricua like me. Some of our Christmas traditions were and still are:
- Opening gifts on Christmas eve and party until the wee hours of the morning. Christmas day is spent recovering and watching Christmas movies, listening to Christmas music and sometimes get out of the house by visiting other family members or going out on the town and watch a movie.
- Go around the neighborhood and look at Christmas lights. Back when I used to live in Puerto Rico we would go Christmas caroling, or go on "parrandas". This was the most fun I ever had as a kid and I want to do this tradition again.
- We definitely throw down with holiday food such as: Pasteles (which are like Mexican tamales but instead of corn dough it's mashed green plantain, stuffed with meat wrapped in leaves from the banana tree). Arroz con gandules (our most traditional rice with pigeon peas which look like small beans). Lechón asado {roasted pig on a spit} or baked in an oven. As far as desserts, it doesn't get any better than arroz con dulce (rice cooked with spices, sugar, milk, and coconut milk), tembleque (coconut milk custard topped with cinnamon), and my personal favorite coquito (coconut milk with rum) or as I like to call it Puerto Rican nog.
2. The one thing I really want from my Christmas wishlist is an Erin Condren Life Planner and I found out yesterday that's exactly what my BFF Ava got me! She didn't know exactly what customizations I wanted so she got me a $50 gift card and I was able to customize it myself and ordered it. I should get it sometime in the first week of January and I'm excited to be able to get organized and have a year long calendar to do just that.

If you caught my post about how blogging can be like a chore, you should guess that this will be my last #sidebarlove post for awhile.  I love this format of getting to know my sponsors and I hope you have too! I will definitely continue it as soon as I go back to regular advertising!

Wishing you a Merry Christmas!!

While Bobby and I weren't together to take cutesy pictures for our Christmas cards, we are finally getting to spend this whole week together.  And that's what Christmas is all about to me - getting to spend time with people that you love.  So I hope you get to spend a lot of time with loved ones this Christmas and if you were on Santa's nice list I hope you get some cool loot too!

Don't you love our Christmas cards? Hey, at least I showed one picture of him smiling!  That may be the only one I have.  Maybe.

How to Lose an Engagement Ring in 10 Days

Well Christmas week is finally upon us.  Which means it is time for my social media feeds to be filled with something I want so badly right now I can't stand it - engagement rings.

Apparently Christmas is when the most people get engaged.  Or at least that's what the jewelry store commercials on the radio say.  And I hear them every.single.time I am in the car.  Convenient.  So today I offer you my best advice yet.

Day 1: Tell him you're ready. Daily.
No guy likes rejection.  So make sure your guy knows that you will say yes!

Day 2: Create a wedding Pinterest Board.
Nothing says you are ready to get married like planning your non-existent wedding.  Your boyfriend will appreciate you getting a huge head start and picking out all your centerpieces, colors, and dresses without him even having to know about it.  Less work for him!

Day 3: Ensure your hands are manicured at all times.
You gotta make sure your fingers look great to sport that new rock.  You're going to have to immediately post pictures to every social media outlet so you don't want everyone seeing chipped polish or ragged hang nails.

Day 4: Make sure your boyfriend knows your ring size.
You want the ring to fit immediately when you take the picture to post on Facebook, right?  Then make sure he knows your correct ring size!  It probably wouldn't hurt to let him know your favorite diamond cut either.

Day 5: Use an engagement ring calculator.
Jewelry companies suggest spending 3 month's salary on an engagement ring.  If he doesn't believe you, show him hard evidence using this calculator.  It uses important information like your education, looks, cooking abilities and how much you put out.  You may want to fill it out for him so he knows the correct answers.

Day 6: Let him know when your friends get engaged.
Of course you are happy for your friends, but you are also green with envy.  So make sure to tell your beau about it. It's even better when you point out that your friends were dating for a shorter time than you and your guy.

Day 7: Show pictures of rings to your honey.
You already made sure the ring fits, but of course you want to make sure you like it.  This ring will be sitting on your finger forever! So make sure to tell him what rings you like and don't like.  Pin them to your wedding board!  And if all else fails, take him to a jewelry store.

Day 8: Tell him about this court case in GA.
After a 7 year engagement, this man in GA has been charged with a breach of promise to marry and the court has ordered him to pay $50,000 to his former fiancee. I'm sure the thought of legal repercussions will make the choice to put a ring on it even easier.

Day 9: Start planning your wedding.
David's Bridal is having their $99 gown sale?  Well, you simply can't pass up a good sale! Start trying on dresses now so you have plenty of time to say yes to the dress.  It probably wouldn't hurt to go to a few bridal fairs or pick up a couple of bridal magazines either.

Day 10: Ask for an engagement ring for your birthday/Valentine's/Christmas.
Does he never know what to get you for a present?  Take all the guesswork out of it for him and tell him exactly what you really want!

If you follow all of these simple guidelines, I bet that you can lose that engagement ring within 10 days and you will NOT be posting an engagement ring this week.  Will I admit that I have done one or seven of these things?  Let's just say that Bobby knows I want to be engaged.

Ornament Swap {Reveal}

I think Jennifer from Bubbly & Buttercream and I had a pretty fabulous Ornament Swap this year!  I got to send to Heather from I Do What I Want.  And after checking out her blog and finding out more about her, I was sure I wanted to send her something wine related.  Maybe something lawyer-y if I could find it.  But when I went shopping, I couldn't find crap!  So I decided to get her some fancy ornaments that would stick out on her tree.  Make sure to visit her blog and see what I sent her!  I know the suspense is killing you!

I received my ornaments from Jennifer and was so excited to get my box because she bakes all.the.time and I was secretly hoping she packed some of those goodies in my box!  And she did!  The same cookies I was drooling over on Instagram a few days before were now in front of me.

I always tell Jennifer that I will be her taste tester, so of course I had to immediately eat a whole cookie taste one.  Le duh. Jennifer sent me 2 perfect ornaments.  A store bought snowflake and a handmade one that literally made me tear up a little bit.

The snowflake is kind of perfect with all the snow I've been getting up here in Indy!

And this handmade ornament is perfect!  It documents this year so perfectly and shows my move from Alabama to Indiana.  I'm going to add the year to the other side of it since I always get an ornament each year that highlights something that happened during the year and this one is kinda perfect!

And of course getting the ornaments in the mail was the kick in the butt I needed to finally drag my tree down and put it up!

Do you have any favorite ornaments?  Do you make a themed tree? Make sure to visit Bubbly & Buttercream and see the link-up and all the other ornaments!

I Don't Like Chores

If you know me well at all, you know my least favorite chore is the dishes.  Like seriously.  I have a dishwasher and somehow never unload it so therefore dirty dishes just pile up until I run out of forks and kinda have to do dishes.  I also wrote a letter to the snow because we've been getting a lot of it up here in Indiana and walking the dogs in it is definitely not fun. Definitely another chore I have been dreading lately.

But who likes doing chores anyway?  And here recently blogging has felt like a chore.  And that literally takes all the fun out of it.  When I have to tell myself, oh crap, I NEED to go blog today, what the hell has gone wrong?

I started this blog back in March after reading a few blogs because I had all these funny stories I wanted to share with everyone.  And sprinkle in some life advice too because I do feel like I am wise at times.  But then I got sucked into this blogging community with companies giving things to review, hosting giveaways, and accepting sponsors.

And all of that stuff is fun.  But it is a lot of work.  And it has gotten so far from what I originally started this blog for.

So in order to make sure I concentrate on my grad classes this upcoming semester and try to make good grades, I unfortunately will no longer be accepting paid sponsors.

When I accept sponsors, I want to make sure I do more than just let someone sit on my sidebar.  I want to get to know my sponsors.  I want to stalk them and read their blog and shower them with social media love and blog comments.  And I haven't been able to do that lately.  So I do not think it's fair to accept sponsors until I am able to devote the attention that I want to them.

I will still post when I get a chance during the semester because my idea list is a mile long and it will only get longer!  I will still accept swaps.  I will also still check my Facebook page, Instagram, and Snapchat.  Sorry Twitter, I can't even catch up on all these tweets because I follow too many bloggers that tweet about giveaways and I avoid you like the plague unless I get a notification #sorrynotsorry

I love the blogging community, I plan to still be around, but I definitely won't be a 5 posts a week blogger because...

I Painted with a Twist

So this weekend I won a free seat to paint my favorite painting at Indianapolis' Painting with a Twist.  If you have never been to PWAT, I highly recommend it!  There are many types of these places all over.  Basically you pay $30-45 (depending on difficulty of the painting) and you have a teacher that teaches the class how to paint the painting.  BUT the "twist" is that you can bring snacks and liquor.  They always encourage liquor!

The painting was Indy's Starry Night.  A take on Van Gogh's Starry Night, but a great way for me to remember the years I am going to be spending here in Indianapolis.

Now how the hell am I going to get this blank canvas to look anything like that first picture?  Luckily, I've done these classes before and I've fallen in love with painting.  And they seriously make it pretty easy.

How did I do??  I am pretty pleased with it.  But of course like a person with slight OCD, I will never be completely satisfied with it. I think the people that have the most fun at these places are the ones that go with friends, bring a whole picnic basket full of food, a bottle of wine, and just let loose and really don't care of their painting will ever be able to be hung on a wall or not.

After painting, I came home and FINALLY put up my Christmas decorations.  Yeah, I know.  Only 10 days left until Christmas.  But better late than never.  But the Christmas lights KICKED MY ASS.  Take this lovely lighted garland that I strategically wrapped around my banister.  Then the bastard didn't work.  Duke wasn't impressed either.

So then I remembered to plug in the lights before using them. Wrapping lights around babies always looks cute, right?

So-Easy-A-Guy-Can-Do-It Buffalo Chicken Dip

I don't know if you've visited my Pinteresting page or not, but if you have you will notice a common theme.  EASY.  Especially when it comes to recipes.  If it calls for too many ingredients - nope! If it takes forever to make - nope!  If it has a zillion steps - nope!  But this little gem is one of mine and Bobby's favorites and it's so easy that even Bobby can make it!

WHAT YOU NEED:
1 large can of chicken
4 oz cream cheese
Frank's Red Hot Thick Buffalo Sauce
Shredded Cheese

For Party Serving double ingredients

1. Drain canned chicken.  Add to oven safe dish.  Shred chicken further with fork.
2.  Cut cream cheese into small portions and add to dish with chicken.  Add as much (or little) shredded cheese as you want.

3.  Add buffalo sauce until ingredients are coated.  More or less according to personal preference.

4.  Warm in oven for 10-15 minutes.  Remove dish and stir ingredients until creamy. You may have to put back into oven to finish warming depending on oven times and how cold your cream cheese was.

VOILA!  I think it's best served with round crackers.  You can also choose to mix in some ranch dressing, but that's why I liked the Thick Buffalo Sauce instead of just hot sauce.

Dear Snow...

Being from Alabama, when you started falling from the sky last week, I was a giddy little school girl.  I ran outside with my cell phone and immediately started taking pictures of my first snow in Indiana. I'm sure my neighbors were thinking, "that Alabama girl is crazy, has she never seen snow before?"

The following morning, I loved how beautiful you looked on the trees.

My little dogs weren't so sure about how you engulfed their little feet.  They also had a difficult time finding the perfect spot to poop because you covered the ground so well.

I also had to figure out how to get 6 inches of you off my car so I could drive to work.  I've only seen this much of you on my car one other time in my life.  I definitely was not prepared and my soaking wet knit gloves and wet socks proved that.  And again, my neighbors were probably thinking, "that Alabama girl is crazy, is she scraping snow off her car with a Sprite box?"  Yes neighbors.  Yes I was.

But now it's a week later and you're still here.  And it's freaking me out.

If you ever showed your face in Alabama, everyone ran immediately to the grocery stores to stock up on milk and bread.  I've never really figured that one out, but whatevs.  Then all the schools let out early and were cancelled for the next day.  Then we may or may not see you.  Most of the time not.  But when we did, you only stuck around for a few hours.  You were usually gone before I even woke up.

You're visiting Indy again tonight.  The weatherman is saying you are going to leave half a foot of you're powdery goodness in the city overnight!  I am a little more prepared for you to make an appearance this time since I now have some boots and a "snow brush". Whatever the hell that is.  But I have three major problems with you.

1.  You're making my car super dirty.

Well it's not really YOU that is making my car dirty.  It's all the salt on the roads to prevent the hazards you can cause.  But how am I going to get my car clean when all the precipitation from the sky is frozen?  What?  People wash their cars some other way?

2.  You're making it hard for me to walk.

Granted it's hard for me to walk most days anyway since I am such a klutz, but I had no idea how stinkin' hard it would be to walk on a sidewalk after you came to visit.  I'm pretty sure you will claim me as a victim before the winter is over with.

3.  You're making it freakin' cold.

FREAKIN' COLD.  My Alabama wardrobe isn't prepared for negative windchills.  I have to walk the dogs every day multiple times and walk a few blocks to work in these frigid, ear-biting, finger-crippling, runny-nose-causing temperatures.  You're also causing air to seep out of my tires.  I don't like it.

But even though you aren't at the top of my Christmas list right now, I am still amazed by your beauty.  But I definitely would rather enjoy you from inside.  In my sweatpants.  In front of a heater. With a warm beverage in my hands.
